Module 5

I have learned so much about inclusion in early childhood through the research I did working on this paper. I have come to believe that inclusion can be a positive experience for both the child with special needs and the typically developing child. The children learn that not everyone walks, talks, and learns in the same way. They learn tolerance and acceptance of others differences. Inclusion is not easy and is often challenging for both the children and the teacher. People are often afraid of things that are different. Through proper education we can alleviate some fears of people with special needs. I believe as teachers we need to stand up and be advocates for the things we feel are important. Children especially need us to advocate for them in so many ways.

This class taught me so much about researching, formatting, and preparing to write a research paper. I also learned how using an outline is so helpful to keep topics together and keep thoughts flowing properly.

  1. I agree with you this class has really taught me so much and now I can use the information for future classes. I cannot agree with you more about children don;'t learn the same way, and many older teachers especially at my center don't realize that. I wish you well on your journey.

  2. I also focused my research paper on inclusion. I was really impressed as I observed in my host classroom how the children with special needs interacted and were a part of the class. It was a great experience for me and I knew that it was a topic that I wanted to share with everyone. I am glad that this portion of the class is completed. I have learned so much from the interviews, the observations, the readings, assignments and my colleagues and I will take what I have learned and apply it for when I enter the classroom. I wish you well and if you have to take Internship 2 I look forward to working with you again. Good luck to you!

  3. Cindy,
Thanks for your insights on inclusion. This is a topic that I think is important and should be advocated for. It is not fair for children to be left out and they should all be able to have the same opportunites that are offered in an inclusive classroom. I wish you the best in your future. This class was a lot of work and we did it. Congratulations and thanks again.

  4. Understanding special needs and training to observe and identify these needs is just as important. Inclusion in early childhood is very important but as an educator we should know what we are doing and how to service and support all children’s diverse needs. Inclusion is a great topic for a research paper. Thank you for all of the information you shared with the class. Good luck to you in your future.
